Culture constitutes a very dynamic sector of growing importance within the gross domestic product of advanced societies. The set of economic activities linked to intellectual property represents 3.3% of Spanish GDP, employing approximately 700 thousand people. From a regional perspective, the average cultural consumption in the Canary Islands exceeds the national average, while IGIC collection, per cultural activity, amounts to around 38 million euros annually (approximately 3% of the total). For every euro invested by public institutions, the sector returns €10, while 12% of tourists who visit the Islands (almost 1.5 million people) do so to attend cultural events.
